PRIVACY AND USE AGREEMENT

Native BioData Consortium may collect and process your personal information that is provided by you as a person who may be interested in our organization. Information may include email addresses from third parties for purposes of providing you information about the Native BioData Consortium. This Privacy Notice is provided to you in accordance with applicable privacy laws including, but not limited to, laws implementing the General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR) (the “Data Privacy Laws”). The GDPR applies only to residents in the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK.  


The Native BioData Consortium site can be browsed without the need to submit any personal information online. We do offer you the opportunity to join our email list, sign up for news briefs, and other communications. For those visitors who visit our Site without signing up for electronic communications, we may collect your Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (i.e., a numerical label assigned by your Internet Service Provider that provides host identification and label addressing, the browser and type of machine you are using, the website that referred you to us, and the pages of our site that you visit. This information is not shared with third parties, and you can unsubscribe from our email list at any time via a link at the bottom of each message.

How we may use your personal information:

The personal and public information collected from you may be used by Native BioData Consortium to improve the site, to provide you with information and event invitations, to generate usage or demographic statistics so that we may better understand your needs and interests, and to improve the visitor’s experience. We may also use the personal and public information to educate ourselves about the interests of our visitors for purposes of better serving the community and our partner organizations. As noted, we will not use any personal information for commercial purposes. Any use of this site for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited. Your personal information may include your name, contact information, information about where you work and, if applicable, where you live and how you use our services.

All the personal information we collect from or about you may be used only during our non-profit organizational activities and only to help us provide information and services you want.

You may also consent to us using your personal information for other purposes relevant to you or of interest to you from time to time. We will not use your personal information for these additional purposes without your consent. You have the right to tell us that you do not want to be contacted by us for these additional purposes any time after you initially provide your consent. 

We are also permitted to process your personal information to comply with our legal and regulatory obligations and/or our contractual obligations to you and to manage any technical issues or support requests that may arise.

We do not share email addresses or information about visitors to our site with third parties. It is possible that personal information may be shared with our partners and other third parties during the Native BioData Consortium’s organizational activities. 

It is possible that we will disclose your personal information to other parties, including but not limited to, the following:

  • To comply with the law or respond to compulsory legal process (such as a search warrant or court order) or request information from a regulator or otherwise for legal purposes;
  • To verify or enforce compliance with the policies governing the services; or
  • To protect the rights, property, or safety of the organization, or any of our respective tribal members and allied partners in the legitimate business interests of Native BioData Consortium and in accordance with Data Privacy Laws.

If we need to share your personal information with third parties, we will restrict the nature and categories of personal information to that which is required to comply with our contractual obligations to you or our legal and/or regulatory requirements. We may de-identify your personal information to protect your privacy.

How we protect your personal information:

Native BioData Consortium understands that storing data in a secure manner is essential. We store personal information and other data using reasonable physical, technical, and administrative safeguards to secure data against foreseeable risks, such as unauthorized use, access, disclosure, destruction, or modification. Although we make good faith efforts to store the information, we collect in a secure operating environment that is not available to the public, we cannot guarantee complete security. Further, while we work to ensure the integrity and security of our network and systems, we cannot guarantee that our security measures will prevent third-party "hackers" from illegally obtaining this information.

How long we keep your personal Information:

We may retain your personal data in accordance with our business needs and for legal, regulatory, audit, and tax requirements. After this period the personal information relating to your account and your use of the services will be deleted.  Any personal information that you have provided to us for receiving information and event invitations will be kept until you notify us that you no longer wish to receive this information.
