IndigiData

Teaching Next Gen Native scientists AI + Informatics skills

IndigiData is a one-week summer workshop that introduces Indigenous college and graduate students to fundamental concepts and methods in data science and informatics.

NativeBio Co-Founder, Krystal Tsosie, Ph.D., and Board Member, Matt Anderson, Ph.D. launched the first workshop in 2021 in partnership with the NativeBio Data Consortium and Ohio University. IndigiData workshops are held on U.S. Indigenous tribal lands except the 2021 IndigiData which was virtual due to COVID-19.

IndigiData emphasizes data ethics and data science skills for Indigenous peoples within the framework of health, culture, environment, and data. IndigiData centers Indigenous data sovereignty and data ethics while also providing students valuable insight into the emerging data and technology career fields.

IndigiData 2025, “IndigiData Health and Artificial Intelligence” was held in June on the lands of the AK-Chin Indian Community in Central Arizona.
